Guys, I'm looking to find a better blackwood supplier. All of my turning stock is 1.5" x 1.5" Square. Length doesn't matter as long as it's over 3". If you have any suggestions, please fill me in.

My current supplier has been having quite a bit of sapwood and they can't get anything that doesn't have it in it - anymore.:(

Thanks

Here's a site that has 6X6X3 blanks for $75. Just did a quick search. There's probably more out there though

Thanks John - I've ordered from them before, but they seem to have the same problem, and they are much more expensive than my current supplier. (maybe that's why I'm getting sapwood! LOL)

I dont know what they've got at the moment, but I've seen quite a bit of blackwood in the past on Gilmer's website. The only drawback is they've got some kind of minimum order amount - seems like $100 or $150 IIRC.

Hard to get instrument quality Blackwood 3" square. The trees don't grow that big and the black heartwood is relatively small. The largest I have been able to get is instrument quality is 2" sq. ANything larger always seem to have sapwood.

MacBeath Hardwoods now has online ordering. Their SLC store is like a candy store for me.

Try calling Mitch at Tropical Exotic Hardwoods in Carlsbad, CA. He has woods from every corner of the world.

Cam,
I think Gilmer wood company has blackwood instrument blanks on their web site.
