I feel stupid asking but I’m getting into woodturning and bought a small delta lathe with some chisels. I’ve practiced a couple of times with a roughing gouge that was u shaped but in the set I got there’s only a small 1/2 in u shaped gouge and this bigger 1 inch v shaped gouge. Would this be used as a roughing gouge as well or what is this turning tool used for?
thanks in advance!

That thing looks like a corner chisel and an SRG had a child. First one I've ever seen

Looks like the one that came with the perhaps older (because it has dark handles) Cdn Tire set although I've seen it with other sets.
Yes, it is a roughing gouge and you'll find with a bit of practice you can use the wings like a skew chisel and get a very good surface finish on your rounded cylinder.

I can see how you might use it in spindle work, but I wouldn't use it anywhere near bowl work.
