After I had rehabbed it back to almost like new...
509099
Goodell Pratt Co. No. 1080...

Hooked it up to another Goodell Pratt Co. Drill..No. 410
509100
Uses a loop to change directions, and ratchet..
Loop the chain around a convenient wood post..
509101
Chain likes to kink up a might...

Pad at the top of the brace..
509102
Will sit on my belly...
509103
All set up, ready to drill ....a 3/8" diameter hole..

509104
This has an Automatic Feed...There is a selector, to where you set how many revs the brace does, before the chain drill will advance...have it set on "1" it can go up to "3"

509105
Chuck has 3 jaws, still had it's springs, too! Mainly for Round shanked twist drill bits,,,up to 1/2" shank.

Might leave this set up as is...and change out to the drill bits as needed..

This works best doing either Posts, or Overhead Beams...

Thanks for looking in..:D

Thanks for posting this. We need more examples of tools that are available but seldom used.

It has been about 45 years since I last used a chain drill. We used one to drill 3/8" holes in steel pipe. We used a large sweep brace, with one guy running the brace, and one guy VERY slowly advancing the sharp bit. It took a bit of time, but less than you might imagine. At any rate, it was a tool that would do the job that was otherwise almost impossible.
