I've been fooling around making some laminated bowls based on the article by Jim McPhail in the latest AAW magazine. This is my latest attempt. The main layers from top to bottom are walnut, yellow heart and madrone in the middle. Various pieces of veneer. 5"x3" Lacquer and Beall buffed.

Earl, that is really nice.
I don't know what period that style would be in, I do know I really like it.

Great job,

Bill.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>:)

Earl,

Nice job with the lamination.

I saw Jim's demo for making his bowls at the North Carolina Symposium in Statesville, NC. If you get a chance to see him, it's well worth it. His little bowls are something. He really understands the properties of grain direction in the wood and uses it to his advantage in his pieces. He uses a lot of CA glue for his finish.

Good work!

That's a beaut! Well done, Earl.

By the by - I spent some quality time in K Falls myself a few years back. Built a couple of houses out at the Running Y.

Earl, you did a nice job with the laminated bowl. I have been meaning to try that. I have long admired Jim McPhail's work.

Very nice, Earl. Your wood selection and placement was "spot on".

Thanks all. I would love to see a demo by Jim McPhail. However, Andy built some houses here in Klamath Falls, OR so he knows how far we are from demo's, stores, etc! About a year ago I finally bought my dream lathe...the PM so I could do BIG stuff...so now I'm doing 5" laminated bowls! Started gluing up another one today. I'm sort of afraid of that much CA glue so doing it the old fashioned way with carpenter's glue.
Thanks for all the compliments.

John, I posted one pic of the vacation...it's in OT.

Hey Earl - You may well be far from demos and big stores and stuff. I actually consider that a plus! But you are right smack in the middle of some beautiful country. Mountains, lakes, grasslands, ranchlands, etc. Don't get any better than that!

Okay, so California is next door. Nobody's perfect!
