Can I apply shellac over minwax regular stain
Can I apply polyurathane (spell) over shellac.

Yes and Yes. Shellac is reported to stick to almost anything and almost anything will stick to it. You should make sure that the stain sets completely before applying the shellac. And shellac makes a great sealer.

Be sure it is dewaxed shellac.

Harry, this is CRITICAL if you are going to use polyurethane varnish over the shellac. Poly doesn't like to stick to itself, let alone other things, and "waxy" shellac will provide you with many opportunities for bad language when used under said poly... ;) Most pre-mixed shellac is waxy...one exception is Zissner Seal-Coat. (The other pre-mixed Zissner shellacs are waxy) Mixing from flakes gives you more choices in "color" (very light to dark) as the shellac coat can also provide some "tone" to the project as part of the finishing process.
