Has anyone had experience in building a cabinet using an electric sewing machine lift mechanism. There are commercial sewing cabinets that use electric lifts but none of those lifts are available separately. The usual lifts sold as a component are air spring/strut supported and don’t seem very user friendly. Anyone know of a reasonable electric lift mechanism?

I did find one called the americana-electric-lift-package. But I would rather spend less than $999.

Thanks

I bought an antique sewing machine cabinet with a vertical lift. Probably made around ww1. Spiral spring similar to a roll up garage door with lever action to lift. I had to slack off the spring for a modern machine which was not heavy cast iron.
flip open lid, push down slightly on machine while pushing button on base and machine lifts up and locks into place. no tilting needed.
Previous owner converted to electric motor drive but left some of treadle drive inside.

Thanks Bill. I’ll research that. Even some of the new ones can be heavy. The issue with spring or strut mechanisms is they have to be strong enough to lift the sewing machine yet not too strong that it is hard to push the platform down to retract everything below the table surface. I have not seen a lift where the strength of the lift pressure can be adjusted. A small person might have to struggle to get the machine back down in the cabinet if not sized correctly. Also they need enough travel to accommodate a tall sewing machine.

It had no makers name on it but I used to think I knew the name. I will think about it some more. The spring is strong and can bite you if the turning bar slips.

This is almost exactly what it looks like. except mine has hinged tall doors on each side hiding the drawers. Lees ornate trim. The right hand door is to get access to the drive pulleys and belt. Mine had a made in Japan machine on it. Not original since mounting was modified.
On the right side of the foot doors in the front door jamb is a brass button 3/8 " diameter about 9 inches from the top. this is the release button.

This is the one I have. I thought it was not made by singer for some reason. It looks identical so mine was also made by singer. they are calling it a parlor sewing machine cabinet. I forgot it has back doors for the feet as well as front, factory wheels
