Very cool. I planted a small packet of dwarf sunflower seeds this year and 5 were viable. The dwarfs have been making us happy as they peek in at us from the deck. :)

That’s neat. Maybe I’ll plant some next year!

I never had one grow that tall, what variety is it?

We've grown them up to 10 to 12 ft but those must be close to 16 ft, very impressive.

There is, or was a field last year of sunflowers local to us. The birds brought us some seeds. So we have 4-5 of them growing this year. But they are only a few feet tall

We plant them because they are such a great reminder of summer. Be sure to leave them up throughout winter. Goldfinch are attracted to them for their seeds.

Once of the kewel things about sunflowers is that there are so many varieties...some are obviously "colossal" in size like showing the OP, but many are smaller and easily integrated into a variety of garden situations. The volunteers that come up from our bird feeders are relatively small, but just as beautiful to enjoy. :)

My uncle also enjoyed growing tall sunflowers for his local fair. Always amazed me how tall they got.

When I was a kid we'd always plant a row or two at one end of our garden. They were usually picked bare well before Thanksgiving day.
