Is there a model of whole house water filter that uses an aprox. 10 inch long filter and has a drain ( stopcock) at the bottom of the canister, so you can drain the water before replacing the filter?

I asked this question in 2021 and got good recommendations for products using a 20 inch long filter.)

All the sediment filters I've used have a pressure relief button up top that opens up a tiny hole to release pressure and a little water in the process, but none have ever had any kind of "drain" on the bottom.

Pentair makes their "Big Blue" filter housing with a drain. The 10" version accepts a bag filter or an 8 1/2 x 4" standard block filter. Big A sells a version with built in pressure gauge, but you can also get it without the gauge (or at least used to be available because I have one) https://www.amazon.com/Pentek-150360-PBH-410-1-Vessel-Assembly/dp/B0026H21AC/ref=asc_df_B0026H21AC/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312089886876&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13547996670760425885&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9015340&hvtargid=pla-572645289595&th=1

Vally ingtalisesting...thanks for that Paul. I didn't see a reference that the standard type filter fits it, however.

Jim, you're right, that housing doesn't state it can use standard filters. Must have misread it.

Searching Pentairs web site, they say the big blue is available with a drain, but only list part numbers for the 20" version.
They do, however, list the part no's for the 10" housing with drain port and the drain valve. (Pentair 153098 and 144357 respectively) so I guess you could replace the sump on a standard big blue housing with those parts and end up with a 10" filter with drain. I'm pretty sure when I bought mine years ago that I bought the complete assembly with the drain, but they don't seem to offer it anymore.

No idea if there is room inside but they make drain plugs that can be fitted to autoamatic transmission pans. Drill a hole attcach bolt with gasket and tighten nut. Then screw npt pipe plug into hole drilled and tapped through the bolt. I would add a ball valve rather then the plug.
