My momma always told me the truth will hurts less and doesn't last as long as a lie. So, here's the time line.

10:00 P.M. - Get home from school after directing Band/Choir concert. It's now already two hours past my bedtime.

10:04 P.M. - Turn on computer, set alarm for 10:06 to test, so I know it works. (Don't usually use an alarm)

10:05 P.M. - Lay down on the couch while waiting for test alarm to go off.

1:00 A.M. - Wake up. Arrrrrgh!!

1:01 A.M. - Say to self "Idiot" then "What would Charlie Brown do? Answer: He would blame it on somebody from Wisconsin."

1:04 A.M. - Quickly start the thread without checking to see that Andy has already started it.

1:06 - Notice that Stu, who is probably selling saki in the middle of the day now, and Frank, who's from Wisconsin and probably drinking saki, are the first to respond.

All I can say is sorry folks, :(and

It's Dale's fault!!

John,
No need to be sorry at all…. We have all known about Dale for a long time so this does not surprise us in the least.
Darn I am laughing so hard right now I think I scared the deer away from the bird feeder!
Can’t hardly stop.
John, Dude (note the capital D), you have done so much in and for the spirit of the Creek that I can’t imagine what you would have to do to warrant our displeasure.
I think your problem with time zones may have something to do with post dramatic stress syndrome from kayaking in warm Mediterranean water one week and cold Great Lake water the next. This condition is exacerbated by carrot juice consumption, btw.
Just keep doin’ what you do John, you’re tops in our book!
Thanks,
Frank

Thanks, but you don't get it. I'm bent over right now waiting for somebody to kick me so I feel better. ;) The kindness thing is going to kill me.

…And what’s more John Bailey,
After Andy Hoyt’s ticking countdown antics and John Hart’s “Next IT Rules” post, I was so wiped out I could not stay up for the 12:01 EST contest, so I went to bed. …But couldn’t sleep for the spinny contest thoughts going thru my head!!!
John, I don’t even have a lathe, and I was lying there thinking how to use any and all of my rotary tools to make something for this crazy contest!!! If I hadn’t been clicking on the new posts button I’d be in orbit right now.
So anyhow, I begrudge you nothing, and I thank you for a whole lot.
Frank

And for you, John, I'm glad to see you 'Fessed up, and confirmed my suspicions, 'cause I said that I just had a feeling you were still keeping "Company with the Chickens", (on the Roost, that is), when everyone was looking for you in the wee hours. I gotta tell you tho, them Reg'lar hours you been keeping will really mess up a persons flexibility.:D

Hi,

Just joined a couple weeks ago. I like this place a lot so I figured I'd send a donation via paypal ... it's well worth it for all the info here. Plus there looks to be a great bunch of people here!

I'm just a beginner and I have a lot to learn ... hopfully someday I can offer some knowledge.

Right now I'm working on small stuff like boxes ... finishing my first one now. Made it from mahogany that was left over from the new deck.

At 9:30 this morning in post #81 in this thread, Keith reported that there had been 131 donations so far this year. I assume that he is not including contributions reported in this thread that are in the mail, so the overall number must be around 200 by now.

Hey Dale,

Except for Norwegian Lutefisk, the rest of that stuff is pretty common in Wolverine country, so, you'll have to do better than that. Besides, if you're actually aiming at us, I'd say the other states better watch out, cause we're the last place that will have to worry.

Well since no one wanted to tell me how to use paypal to donate:rolleyes: I was able to figure it out on my own..

Les,
Don't worry about spending a few minutes learning how to use PayPal. :) I'm still working on "snail mail". ;) :) Given enough time, I've got every confidence that I will figure it out - sooner or later! :D

I'm in with my donation for 2006. Sent via PayPal.

Thanks to all who contribute to make this forum what it is. I really appreciate all the work done by those 'behind the scenes' and all the contributors w/ expert advise.

I know this is a stupid question, and if I spent about an hour going thru all of the old threads I could find an answer to this question. But, can anyone give me an address to mail a check to. Also, about how much are you guys sending in? I want to do my part. --Rudy

I know it's been a loooong time since this event took place, but hey, whaddya want for free!

As you may recall from a few of John Asleep-at-the-Wheel Bailey's posts announcing the impending launch of this endeavor, I got conned by Mr. Bailey (and his evil manservant John Hart) into providing a trophy for whoever was the first to reply to this thread at midnight plus one way back on February 1st.

And as I'm sure you'll also recall, John took a nap and blew us all off. So I started his thread just like he would have and Frank Chaffee nailed it in about 3.2 nanoseconds. Then John woke up an hour or so later, did his thing and Stu Ablett way over there in Tokyo punched in with the first reply.

Well. Shucks. Whaddya do when you have two winners and one trophy. Saw it in half? Nope. Make another. And here they are. I like 'em both and cannot decide who should get which. So I'm gonna let John Bailey decide - assuming he ever wakes up again.

The one on the left is a piece of Buckeye from Ohio that John Hart sent me and the one on the right is a piece of Velvet mesquite that George Conklin sent from Arizona. Thanks fellers.

OK folks,

It's spring and this ole' bear is finally out of hibernation. I say the Mesquite goes to Stu in Japan and the Buckeye goes to Frank.

Now that that's done, I think I'll start a new project. Let's see, "John, Asleep-at-the-Wheel, Bailey." That has a catchy ring to it. I think I'll start a Texas Swing band and use that for the name of the band. Certainly no one used that name before!!:D

Andy,
I am speechless.
If we had flies in Wisconsin yet this spring, they would be free to travel in and out of my wide open mouth right now.
I have a strong affinity for vessel forms. This wonderful chalice will occupy a space of high honor in my shop for as long as I live. I have always felt that the turning of an object, whether in clay, metal or wood, creates a record of the time and place it was created, the joy experienced by the turner, and continues to sing forever and ever. Sort of like an LP pressing, but waay better.
Through the lip (singular, right?), of this vessel I will hear the song sung from your Maine woods workshop, and that song will harmonize (in very clever and unexpected ways, I’m sure), with the pealings (peelings?), of turners round and round the world.
This chalice will obviate my need for telephone, stereo, and especially excruciatingly slow broadband internet connections, in much the same way that a conch shell would, but again, waay better!
I know I will be not be able and am not expected to repay you directly for this freely given gift; the best I can offer in return is to emulate the spirit in which you interact with others; always light hearted and with an interesting twist.
Thank you very much Andy.
Frank

Hey Arena,
With that sugary sweet sonnet of solicitious subterfuge, I would SWEAR that you are trying to con Andy out a couple gallons of his favorite ice cream in ADDITION to that gorgeous vase! :( ;) :)

Actually, Frank, "lip" is OK in the singular but "brim" or "rim" would be more appropriate for use within the scope your linguistic mastery. :D

Anyway, I'm VERY jealous!! With the size of the bribe that I gave my mailman, I should be the one with the Golden Chalice!!

Hey Andy,

Hi old buddy, old pal, prince of the ice cream palate, master of all things made of resinous renewable fiber and most handsome of all (all your faces) beings, legends and those yet to achieve legendary status. :) You may find this hard to believe but my name is Frank (Stu for short) Ablett Chaffee. ;) :o

I sometimes go by the alias of John Jacob Jinkle Himer Schmidt but that is only when I don't want to be noticed!

NOW, oh MASTER OF MACHINED MEGAWOODS; What is an IT? When can I expect IT to arrive at: N3322 River Bend Drive, Peshtigo, WI., 54157.

If that doesn't work, just send it to "Cub Fan", c/o Tom (The Postmaster in Peshtigo). :) He will give it to Tom (The Police Chief in Peshtigo). The latter Tom ALWAYS knows where I am!! :o :)
