While I waited for the bomb to go off I finished up an elm bowl and found pictures of my first attempt at a segmented one--maple, bloodwood, and walnut. If they (the pictures) post, the elm is 13X4 3/4" and the segmented is larger. I was not happy with the segmented piece as it finished out much thinner than I intended.

Cecil, time well spent! That Elm turned out great :) and the segmented one has, at least, 10 more segments than I'm willing to try right now! Good job! :)

Both look great Cecil. I hope my elm bowl turns out as nice as that one. It will be my first finished bowl. Love the segmented one.

Thin? I thought that was the purpose of turning all that excess wood off:eek: I must have missed something. Nice pieces though. All of em!!

Thanks for the kind comments. The segmented wound up being about 1/8" and was really hard to keep from chattering. I had wanted to make it about 1/2", but sloppiness on my part in laying it up really came back to haunt me. I think the next time, if there is a next time, I'll try something smaller.

Wonderful work Cecil!!!! The finish is just awesome. What did you use? Oh...and....can I have your bowl pedestals please?:)

You want my BBQ pit? Oh, you mean the other one. I'd almost be happy to send you one of those hackberrys if you wanted to pay the freight. The elm is sanded to 400 gr. then a couple of coats of French polish, followed by Beal. The maple is just sanded to 2000gr. and beal.

I like the shine, shape, and size on the elm bowl.
If I may,
I sometimes see things (images) in bowls simular to those that one may see in a cloud. In your bowl I see a Jeanie appearing from the smoke rising out of the lamp.

Beautiful work, Cecil! What's your finish? And, I also see the genie coming out of the lamp.:)

Well now that you mention it ... it DOES look like a Genie. Great job I wish I could be half that good at this stage in the game.

Very nice bowls, Cecil! I like 'em both, especially the Elm.

Doug, you got some some good exotic shavins up there, don't ya? ;) :D

Thanks for the pictures!
