Had to walk about 100 yards, to boot..round trip to and from the car...trip back to the car was carrying this Thing..
503589
And these ain't lightweight, either...about wore me out.
503590
It is a later Model Millers Falls Mitre Box....not really worried about the missing saw, as I do happen to have one that might fit.
503591
Those be Phillips headed bolts in the RED deck...mid 1950s?

have it soaking in WD40, for now....need to clean things up a bit....and see how a 4" x26" saw will work...

Got my Cardio Workout for today....this thing weighs quite a bit..

I'll have to look at mine. I bought it new off the shelf in a local building supply store in 1974.

I went out and took a couple of pictures of mine. The sticker is a bit different. Mine does have Phillips screws holding the decks.

Looks a lot like my Millers Falls #1124:

It cost a few bucks more with the saw > https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?268646

This one has a 2 then some scratches..then a c....thinking a #2 frame, 74c..

Checked a couple "spare" saws..I do have a 4"x 24" saw available...once things are cleaned up, lubed up to move freely...Not really worried about the missing saw keepers...rarely ever store a saw in the Raised position anyway..

I do have an ACME 2-1/2 No.75 with the 30" saw...

I’ve got a 1264C with a Disston 4x24 saw. Not sure the saw is original to the miter box, but the size is correct. The platform is attached to the frame by screws from underneath; no screw heads are visible from above. Here’s an interesting link to MF/Langdon miter boxes: https://langdonmitreboxes.wordpress.com/blog/

I also have 2 Stanley boxes: a 150 that I like a lot and the rare 460 with the original 6x30 Stanley saw that a widow was practically giving away on Craigslist. I haven’t weighed the 460, but it’s got to be over 40 pounds. It’s in the queue waiting to be refurbished.

Have started a tear down...so I can clean up everything, get red of the rust...re-lube everything that needs it...
503706503707
Lots of rust...
503708
Can be adjusted for the length of the saw being used....once I clean that rusty dovetail out..
503709
Deck bolts have a Phillips head, and square nuts...would appear this has been given a Primer coat of gray paint?
Missing the length stops, and the depth stops, as well as the "keepers" to keep the saw elevated...you can see some of those here..
503710
Then again, this is the No. 75 ACME version...with the 5" x 30" mitre saw. The saw I have for this "new" mitre box?
503711
A 4" X 24" WS Miter Saw...although I do have a spare 5" x 28" Disston No.4 Miter Saw...

Plan at the moment is to clean things back to bare metal....give the decks their coat of M-F RED....and then a gloss Gray for the frame?

Them TINY Phillips bolts MIGHT be hard to find, IF I should need a couple....let alone those square nuts...

This MIGHT be a "FUN" project? Stay tuned..

Intend to wire wheel what I can...sand away what rust I can, touch up with paint...lube things up...Maybe later this week, I can try this new MitreBox out?

Ribs on the fence.....leave painted, or...leave un-painted and shiny metal?

Deck plates...will add red to both faces. Bolts for the plates?

Bought mine from an Antique store in Southwest Michigan 12 years ago, near an apple orchard close to Warren Dunes. The manual dates it at 1968. It was job site ready with this great carrying case. Used it to trim out mostly shoe molding on a laminate floor install a few months back. FWIW: the circular saw cut across the case lid was on the previous owner’s watch, not to suggest that this type of misstep is beyond my standard attention to detail. :^).

Had to take the deck plates off...to get to the bolts for the legs...
503863
Which also have square nuts..
503864
Once these nasty looking legs were removed..
503865

I found 2 sets of numbers cast into the frame...
503866
#5728...and...
503867
#72....Hmmm..maybe this MIGHT be a No. 72c Mitre box?...

Swing arm has been cleaned up, and given a new coat of paint...
503868
Took awhile, to get the locking arm put back together ...
503869
Trying to remember how this swivel lock goes on..
503870
Because it also screws into the Gib...somehow...

Stay tuned, more to come...

Saw guides are cleaned up, and move like they are supposed to...
503871
Yes, these have bearings for the back of the saw to ride on...
503872
Bolts for the deck plates....the plates are NOT flat..
503873
Would have taken too much work to get them flat,,,as they crown up in the middle, and the work face side...
503874
Main frame, awaiting a wire wheel to get rid of the rustiness....then a quick shot of Primer..
503875
And set aside...did have to clean off the degree scale..
503876
Will come back with a black sharpie, and highlight the markings...

Feet?
503877
Nasty looking....this is after all the spider nests were removed, BTW...
Stay tuned...

Feet?
503878
Stripped of all rust and old paint....then, just like the deck plates..
503879
Plates got red both faces, legs got Gray....

Waiting on paint to cure a bit...before I attempt to re-assemble this thing....looks like the legs have to go on first...

Stay tuned..

Have found out, that this Mitre Box only takes 5" saws...a 4" saw is not going to fit the saw guides....

Mitre Box is NOW assembled....a little stiff, there is a washer back by the King Pivot Bolt, that may have been installed on the wrong side of the swing arm...Too late in the day to re-check..

Pictures tomorrow....This just MIGHT be a No. 2 Frame No. 72c?

Steven
I always enjoy your posts as I'm a sucker for restoring old rusty/crusty hand tools.
You do a nice job of grabbing photos and annotating the steps of your work, making a nice story to follow.
So I just want to say your posts are appreciated.

James..Thank You!

calling the rehab done...
503894
Look around in back ( where all the sawdust will be piling up..
503895
The Degree Scale is now very readable...
503896
Saw height adjusted to NOT saw the Gib....Back end needed a "nudge" to the left...
503898
Swung around to cut a 45....pin locks in every stop and doesn't wiggle...until I unlock the pin, and move it to the next station in life..
503899
Saw is a 5" x 28" Disston No. 4 Mitre Saw...11ppi..that needs sharpened...

I think that will do for this "Cheap" $2 Mitre Box? Frame has a "72" cast into it..so..MAYBE this is a No. 72c? Millers Falls.

BTW..a 4" x 24" saw would not fit through the saw guides slots....teeth were not down into the wider slot for teeth to go...missed it by an inch.
