My Delta belt sander is noisy and makes a clunking or grinding noise when I turn it off. The noise seems to come from around the motor roller. Any thoughts? Bearing, maybe? If so, how do I fix it?

Take off the drive belt and then turn on the motor. Next, spin the belt by hand and see how it moves. Clunking is never a bearing unless it's fallen out,

Thanks, I'll try that.

Clunking noise when the motor spins down is often the centrifugal switch relatching for your next start, it should not “grind” but if dust got in there, it could.

"...centrifugal switch...? What and where is it?

If you can provide the belt sander model number or of the motor we can potentially find a part diagram. With that said it’s a switch at the end of the motor shaft (usually near the fan shroud) that connects the start capacitor in circuit until the motor has reached speed. I assumed your sander had an induction motor and not a universal motor.
