Recently Purchased a SCM T120C shaper. Does anyone have any Experience with one? I got some attachments with it and i have no idea what they are for. Also a if anyone has an old manual copy or pdf that would help as well.

Post some photos and maybe be a bit more specific with your questions. What are you wanting to know?

You may be able to get a PDF of the manual from calling SCM. I have gotten many old PDF manual scans from them for my vintage scm machines.

This is also a good resource for older Euro machines. If you scroll down and click / find “documents” you will see 3 different PDFs that are more like spec/sales sheets on the model over time. SCM may have more technical PDFs on file.

I have a manual for it saved as a PDF but because i renamed it when I copied the label looks like its just on my hard drive and will not work at first opened the title was 14 feet long which also would not work. Have some of the hold downs and accessories but usually just use my own feather boards and others. Not sure where I got it from it was a while back

I got a box with all these extra parts, bolts and “little spindles??” and id like to identify what they are for. (See photos)

The pressure roller where/ how does that attach?

This machine I have has a brake but it appears to be disconnected, I was hoping to find a photo of how it connects.

The fence micro adjust knobs appear to have a set screw missing, what does that do?

There is a threaded hole in the top of the spindles is this for a safety nut?

There is a homemade wooden dust hood attached to the fence and it has a green knob that goes into one of three holes, can’t figure out what that would be for but it was important enough that they drilled the wood to receive it.

I only paid about 500 bucks so I wasn’t expecting much but runout is less than 1thou at the top and it seems to be a pretty heavy machine, much heavier that our pm 28 7.5hp shaper.

I had to use one in an employment. Did not like it. Apparently it ‘s main objective was to never be sued over lost fingers . It has no
over-hang, so there is no good way to clamp on the often needed wooden fences.

Pretty sure I’m turning this guy into a coping shaper with linear guides and a carriage / pneumatic clamp setup. So thankfully no need to clamp wooden fence. I do like that It has a toolless knob to slide the fence out of the way. On the pm28 you gotta move the fence position or remove the wooden fence(screws) to change large cutters. One of the reasons I started using outboard fence.

are you going to make a set up?

I bought one shaper with linear in two directions back and forth and in and out. Custom made to do heavy raised panel doors that had shapes, then it ran from a large bearing on an outboard shape. Its off the machine now but will want to rebuild it likely only front to back as much as the in and out might be useful have to think about it. It was fastened to the machine top but will take the track off likely and put it on a plate that can be fastened to the machine.

Interesting do you have any photos? I’ll share photos of what I have in mind later tonight.

have photos taken prev that were never put in the machine folder. At some point ill go through stuff dumped by date and put it where it belongs. Past customer hired me to help complete a job and lots is onsite and a long drive and days are too long. Here is one before I took it off the machine. Ill likely build it for straight line only as much as there are advantages to it moving in and out. Slides on the bottom are also air pistons so they maintain a pressure pushing in so the bearing follows the jig. Someone spent a lot of money to build that. I would have left it but its too close to the head for doing tennons. 9Hp machine that can take a large head. LIke a top spindle bearing as well maybe make one out of the orphaned power feed stand.

Warren, Looks like a good setup dedicated setup. What model Griggio is that? I recently picked up a 4kw/5.5 hp T1000 for $100. It was rusty, sitting under a tarp in a parking lot and needed some clean up, but now runs great and true. Looks very similar to that one.
