The “Off” switch button on my General 130 Planer has disintegrated. It is a NHD Inc. model MS1-09D 230V, 15 Amp 3HP magnetic switch. A Google search wasn’t very informative. Should I replace with a magnetic switch or a non-magnetic switch. I’d appreciate any suggestions about what switch to get.

Thanks, Tom

Magnetic switch? do you mean a one piece contactor with button in the same case? If it is just the pushbutton off switch wire in a new one or two.
I would buy a used contactor with overloads and a push button station or two. Nice to have another off switch on the back end of the planer. As long as the coil voltage is good two or three contacts will work fine.

I would still recommend a magnetic switch for a machine such as a planer. You do not want the machine to automatically restart if the A/C power is temporarily lost. You can get decent a magnetic switch from Amazon:

Another General 130 owner. Where did you manage to get hold of that little Canadian animal?

Thanks for the input. I ordered the suggested switch from Amazon.

Gregory, I bought it at an attorney’s estate sale 12 years ago. Best $300 i ever spent.

Thanks, Tom
