I provided a demo for the Savannah River Woodturners (Augusta, GA) this past Saturday. I made the simple vase shown below from a maple crotch that was about 5" at the base as cut from the tree. The funnel at the top is pecan. It was a mistake from the week before.
Vase ID is 2-1/2", height is 8-1/2". The pecan funnel is ~2-3/4" tall and the mouth is ~3" ID. Vase has 3-4 coats of shellac all sanded back, the last with a scuff at 320. The funnel has been treated with Yorkshire grit. I'll be getting out the spray gun soon and applying lacquer on these and 10-12 bowls, 3-12". More to come.
OBTW, been going from the bowl gouge and directly to the 220 gouge lately. Still improving.
