This desk weighs about 400 pounds, including the granite top.

We needed to move it, without breaking it or cracking the granite.
The arched panel is a primary structural element. Here's a shot in mid construction.

That kind of cleverness - incorporating features to facilitate moving - should be considered and discussed more in the design & build process.

A lift table would give you full swivel ability while moving. Nice job on the overall design.

Actually the floor jack provides full swivel plus moving and steering. The big offcut makes the balancing act easy. It's Hemlock from a timber framing project. Over the years it's needed squaring up and a big check filled, plus corners softened. It's been handy many times for different things.

Tom, I really like this desk. Very nice design and offsetting the drawer pulls was brilliant (for this piece). I'm curious, how did you achieve the curvature of the top in the second pic? Is that a veneered piece with a solid edge?
