Asking for a friend who had an emblem cut into a piece of wood on a CNC He wants to pour Epoxy into the cavity. Do you seal the cavity before pouring. The wood is hard maple and the epoxy is black

It's a best practice to seal before pouring anything to fill, especially if there's a colorant involved. You don't want that colorant to soak into the surrounding grain. You can use wax free shellac or clear epoxy for the task.

Thank you for your answer. It paralleled my thought on the mater. I had to really sand down the friends work because it soaked into the surrounding grain.

You will have a much better time with final finish if you do seal them. When I rush and dont I usually get pin holes that around the epoxy/wood boarder. These can be filled with CA but are quite annoying. A faster clear drying epoxy works well.
