I am finally delivering on a sideboard / buffet for the living room. This thread will make more sense once I get a pic of the finished piece. Final coats of finish should go on today and tomorrow but I am happy with the color balance.

The top and backsplash will need a couple of more coats.
501530

The pullouts are pretty much done.

All parts will get a "finishing the finish" treatment in a few days once things start to fully cure. After that a bit of paste wax and buffing, an extra day to let the wax air out, and it can get hauled into the house.

Very nice...Sapele? Based upon the gap from the top of the post to the top of the side rail, I assume the panels in the last pic will slide out for an extension of the sideboard.

Correct on both counts. Ribbon sapele for some parts, sepele for the balance. The pull outs will provide extra prep or serving space during use.

Looking good, Glenn. I look forward to seeing the final product, I'm sure the boss even more.

The color of the sepele is spectacular. Mouth watering chocolate
Did you find it at Petermans?

This is some stuff I have had for years and came from Soroyan. Peterman has some nice sepele though and occasionally obeche if you like the blond version.

Some out of the ordinary weather the last few days has slowed me getting to the "finishing the finish" stage on the latest effort. The top and a few other parts got done today . . .

The balance should be ready tomorrow (wait . . . I've been hearing that for the last three days!?!) so I hope to have it ready for delivery in a couple more days.

Freshly waxed and waiting a day or two for the off-gassing.

The shop lighting is not the best for pics. The coloration is off.

I will get some pics of it in place in a day or two.

Another wonderful piece Glenn. Terrific work as usual. The subdued Greene and Greene look works really well - nicely done. Isn't sapele great to work with?

Thanks Bill. That means a lot coming from you. Sapele has been an occasional favorite for a while. It is rapidly becoming a primary favorite; the width, figure and consistency of material starts to rival cherry and maple in my book. ;-).

Looks fantastic. Did you work with or modify an existing plan, or is it a full custom design?

I do my own designs and use the highly scientific "back of a napkin" to scratch paper to SketchUp migration. SketchUp is a godsend for me since I don't really have much natural artistic skill. SketchUp lets me stretch dimensions, vary size relationships and so forth until I get that "ah-ha" moment where I like what I see. I am like the photographer who takes 1000 pictures to get a good one. From the baseline SU drawing I can build out joinery, test structural approaches and so on. Quadrille works too :D

It may be that dogs have no concept of beauty.

Or your dog is just jealous.
