A friend gave me a piece of plastic he wanted cut to size, i took a piece of scrap acrylic I had to test the measurement , which cut perfect 1 pass at 65% pwr 8mmps spd , put in his piece and barley scratched the surface. turned up power 100% 4 passes didn't get thru it. I think its melting itself back together on each pass.
Anyone have a clue as to what this stuff is? It looks like acrylic or delrin, but obviously its not.

Bert,

It sound to me as what you have is a Lexan (polycarbonate) sheet.
Tell your customer to bring you Acrylic piece.

Thanks Tony
He doesn't want to use acrylic because he says it isn't flexible and breaks with what he uses it for. He says he needs something that will bend a little and not break.

I think Tony nailed it. Lexan (polycarbonate) will not cut with a laser. Cast acrylic is likely to be better than extruded in terms of durability, particularly cracking and breaking.

Why not use a piece of 1/16" Laser Plastic, it is flexible.
it sounds like he gave you a piece of ABS Plastic, it will melt rather than cut and produces a black soot on the surface.
