I was just wondering if any one knows how to determine the age of Delta equipment from serial numbers, as I am trying to determine the age of a Delta saw. Here is the info I have on the saw. Is it a 1988?

Serial # 00H88742 / 36-472 delta contractor saw

Thanks

According to Delta, they changed to eight digit serial numbers beginning July 30, 1982 (March 1984 in Canada and Brazil). The first three of these digits were a date code, the remaining 5 made up the individual serial number for the machine.

Example: 83B01234

The date code consisted of the two-digit fiscal year of production followed by a letter which designated the month of production according to the following code:

A = October
G = April

B = November
H = May

C = December
I = June

D = January
J = July

E = February
K = August

F = March
L = September

So with this, your saw was made in May of 2000.

I own or have owned a few Delta machines. At one time they were one of the best.
I knew about the first two digits being the year, but didn't know about the month until I Googled it.
Seems strange that they start with October as A instead of January.

It probably lined up with the start of their fiscal year.
