Spent a bit over $26 and change..for 2 items....had to sneak them into the house...
499016
Plain brown paper? Unroll it just a bit..
499018
Still trying to decide whether this is Walnut..or..Rosewood...what's so special about a $10 marking gauge with ONE point?
499019
When you turn it over, and find 2 more very sharp (ouch!) points..Brass thumbscrews, too...

So, what was the other item?
499020
$15.00 for a Low Angle Block Plane?
499021
Has a wide bed for the iron..
499022
Older logo on the adjuster...and...
499023
PATD 10-12 * 97.....on the lever...

Looks like I have some rehab to do....

For some reason..most of the Antique Stores I stopped at, today...were closed?

Cleaned up the block plane and compared it to another 60-1/2 in the shop....they do not match....appears this"new" one is a Stanley No. 65......almost 7" long, compared to the 60-1/2...and a tad wider.....Logo on the iron..
in 3 lines...

No nickel plate was found...and, this seems to have been BEFORE the knuckle cap was used...hmmm.

Steven, great job on the rust hunt. I especially like the marking gauges.

I think that's a #77 Marking Gauge. Does it have the moustache shaped brass wear plate on the face of the fence? If so it's Rosewood. I had a mint version found in the wild much like you found this. It was in an antique mall and labeled a "scratcher". I foolishly parted with it.

It's an early one. They started using the adjustable mouth in 1905 and the KJ Cap in 1917.

Compared to the No.60-1/2 I have in the shop...
499068
499069
499070
499071

Marking gauge..
499072
Has a single brass "Handle-bar Mustache".

Guess one can flip the head over as needed...
499073
3 points....2 fixed, 1 adjustable....each end of the arm has 2 brass pins that go all the way through...
499074
And a brass adjuster for the moving pin....
499075
Brass thumbscrew to lock the head in place...

Not too bad...$26 for the two items...counting Sales Tax...?

Yup, an old #65 and a #77.

I had two KJ #65. They were really nice little planes. I liked the oversize nature (for a block plane) they're the same size as a #1 smoother and felt great in my big mitts. They were divested in the great plane purge of a couple years back. I suffer through with a 60 1/2 and a #102 now. I'll figure out a way...

My #77 had the product ID stamped (embossed) on one side of the sliding fence.

You have more success in one day than I have in one year!

Hmmm...Had to go and look in the "Back Barn" to find the block plane.....sitting on a "Spool Table" with a No. 4 Steel Frog, a No. 4 Handyman, and a No. 3 Steel frog...along with a pair of Transitional Jack planes. There was a pair of rather beat up Coffin Smoothers down on the floor, too....

Went inside the Main Building ( Eastman Antiques, Mount Victory,OH...) and found a bunch of marking gauges...and just happened to pick up the No. 77...mainly due to the adjuster on the end of the arm....

IF I go by the imprinted scale on that arm...I could mark out for a 3" wide tenon? Don't think I will ever do one of those....3/8" wide is more to my liking....

The 77 did not have a price tag on it...so, she went by the other price tags...which where just simple, single pin ones...$10.00?
