have noticed over the past week or 3....bench vise was having "issues" of the #12 screws holding it to the bench...half were stripped out, and the other half were not far behind...decided to at least stabilize things, rather than tear that end of the bench apart...as I didn't have any 2" thick Oak, anyway....

What I did have, was a bit of 1 x 6 Ash.....was a bit too thick for what I wanted to do..so..

After cross cutting to length, and ripping to width...decided to thin it down a bit...saw blade all the way up...still did not reach the center....but a D8 Rip saw will..
498556
Which left me these 2 slabs.....had to remove the moving part of the vise, then drill and counter sink a few holes...
498557
1-5/8" screws, set into "Good wood" and NOT the metal jaw of the vise....then a drop of 3in1 oil on the rods and the screw, re-assemble the vise (spins with a single finger, now)
498558
Making sure the new jaw works...don't want the Wentworth No.1 to wiggle around..
498559
Focused a spotlight onto the teeth...

Jackson 12", 14ppi Backsaw....

Saw has been given a test drive....saw file is back there in the tool tray...

Have to decide on which saw to sharpen next...

There IS another saw vise in my shop...
498701
Only markings is a "No. 3" on a jaw....
498702
Adjustable for tilt...locking and un-locking could be a pain...unless I have that lever wrong...

Vise No.1 was back at it..
498703
Instead of taking the handle off...I simply moved the saw around...so that the locking lever doesn't smack into the saw's handle, before things are locked tight..
498704
Saw is a 5 ppi Rip saw...with some BIG teeth...
498705
Warranted Superior on the medallion...but, it also has a 1887 patent date on the medallion...and an Eagle facing to the left...

498706
3 bolts, and carved details...and a split...

did not take very long, before..
498707
All done.

Whereas my Disston D8 rip saw is more of a finesse saw at 5-1/2ppi and 28" length....this saw is more of a chainsaw...at 5ppi (and PLENTY of OEM set)and 26" length....still trying to get a good read on the etch...
498708
Will work on the etch, later...
