Shop lay-out tool.

I’ve been having difficulty figuring the best lay-out for the smaller space. Sketch-up and other tools are available, but being simple I need simple tools. I think this has some possibilities.

Good idea. But I think you need to put some labels on the blocks for things like table saw, jointer etc.

Graph paper with the room layout to scale plus some cardboard cutouts of machine footprints (including "required" infeed/outfeed/standing space) is about as basic and inexpensive as you can go. Of course, once you have all the stuff in the shop, you still end up playing "machine tetris", a process which actually continues periodically for the entire life of the shop. :) :D
