I'm relatively new to turning and would like to do a lot of practice on some pinon pine. (Sadly had to cut down - killed by bark beetles) It's been outside since last summer and has developed a lot of cracks. Is there a material that can be used to fill/stabilize the cracks you can see in the attached photo? It would need to be something thin enough to seem deep into the cracks. Would something like that be apt to seem into and discolor the wood?

I just don't think the cost and effort would be worth it. Pine is not the best wood to turn and this stuff looks like its on the way to get quite punk in addition to the cracks.

It may be too late for this wood, but in the future if you seal the ends of your logs as soon as possible it will help minimize the cracking. I use Anchorseal 2, but others use different process'.
