I bought an 19-38. Only had it about 6 months. In the beginning it was running great, now when I feed a piece of stock, the sanding head starts to oscillate .
When there’s no load it spins smoothly but even when I take the smallest pass (1/8 turn) it oscillates and the plastic cover starts bouncing.
Any suggestions?

Can you describe the oscillation? Is it up and down? Fore and aft? Side to side?

if it up and down, have you checked the slide guides and are they well tightened?

if its side to side, check the bearings they might be worn out.

if its fore and aft, the slide column bolts might be loose on the base.

Hope this helps.

What plastic cover are you referring to? The only plastic on mine is the motor controls and switch cover, I believe.

Is the metal drum oscillating or is the sand paper loose? When you put new sandpaper on, after a few minutes it stretches. It’s good practice to stop and retighten the paper.

Call SuperMax. Their tech support works at the company headquarters and is super knowledgeable. Helped me get my used 19-38 back to factory specs.
