Please toss out your opinions and experiences...

I'm just starting a new bathroom vanity with stile and rail doors, and I'm looking at router bits to accomplish this. The style I pick will carry over when I reface our kitchen cabinets so the bits will see a reasonable amount of use.

Thumbing through my catalogs, it looks like Rockler, Lee Valley and Grizzly all have what I need. Grizzly has two quality levels of bits (industrial and super duty). In the past I have always purchased Craftsman bits, and I'm sure they would have what I'm looking for too. Rockler bits have an optional setup jig that looks like a pretty good idea.

What is everyone's opinions on these 4 different bit makers? I'm willing to pay a little more for quality if necessary.

Thanks,
Jarrod

I had a class and we did a comparative analysis and Whiteside simply had more, and higher quality carbide on their bits and the brazing was much better. A custom bit from Wisconsin Knife Works was a close second, but it was custom.

we had tested CMT, Bosch, Porter-Cable, Amana, Katana, Woodcraft, and three other "no name" brands.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I put a flush trim bit on and was machines some knarly birdseye maple without even thinking about my amount of cut. (which is a bad thing to do). It was a whiteside and nice fluffy chips were flying off, and as they were, I sighed in relief that I was smart enough to put on the whiteside bit, instead of the el cheapo!

Whiteside is available at woodcraft and several online sources.

I have not used bits from Eagle America, but I have heard that they are good. The have some door sets on sale here (http://eagleamerica.com/product.asp?pn=185-0300b&SID=EAGL060125&EID=DMI060125E&eicioi=58738&bhcd2=1138391338). I am on their mailing list.

Most of my bits are Whiteside but I do have a few Eagle Americas and even a few Rocklers. The Whiteside are easily the best with Eagle America second. The Rocklers are fine but I don't think I would use them for extensive work. I bought those because they are less expensive and will use rarely on select projects.

Jarrod,

I've had good experiences with routerbits.com. I've purchased many bits from them. They sell Whiteside. Good prices.
