These used to be a Lot cheaper. I think when I bought a box of these they were 69 cents a piece. There are so many different sizes of files to sharpen handsaws, different sizes and types of flat files, and different sized chainsaw chains. I don't like to have to fumble around to fit a file into a handle that last had a larger file in it. I guess this should be a lifetime supply, but I'll have to turn some to match before paying this much for a box. I really like the shape.

I've used files with just about everything from a dry corn cob to a piece of deer antler.

I don't like to have to fumble around to fit a file into a handle that last had a larger file in it.

The easiest way to reuse an old file handle that previously held a large file is to drill out the hole (if it isn't round) and glue in a dowel.

There are also reusable handles:

The two on the upper right are good for holding files.

Well, that's not all of them. There are almost that many more at other work stations and kits...:o

I’ve got too many files to count and only 2 have handles. I know about all the warnings and maybe I’ve been fortunate, but in more than 50 years I’ve never been injured by a file or seen the need to use one with a handle. Probably makes saw sharpening easier, though.

I used to use files without handles for many years. If nothing else, a handle makes a file a lot easier and more comfortable to use. Straight filing, draw filing or any other technique is more comfortable with a handle.
