Identify this wood

My wife has had this dresser and matching night stand since she was a child. We think it's from crate and barrel. I'd like to make some matching (or close to it) items but don't know what species of wood to start with. I'm far from an expert on this so I've come to you fine folks. I checked the C&B website but don't see the items for sale.

Any advice on how to achieve a similar finish would be appreciated as well.

It is pine with an amber dye over clear coat

Looks like white pine to me.

If my memory serves, Crate and Barrel furniture was made from pine.

Probably pine if you had bought it in in north america. I am not familiar with austrialian or new zealand lumber except a few eucalypts. It does not look like a eucalypt to me.
