I’ve always had trouble securing work when using my small plow plane. Likewise I’ve never had a decent way to secure thin parts while planing. A couple of recent threads gave me some inspiration. I finished a prototype today that shows promise. I need to make a different fence that’s wider and has multiple locations for clamp screws, but this one works. Also need to add a stepped area as Derek Cohen has on his. I’m especially pleased with the hacksaw blade as the planing stop. It grips the end of the stock very well. A road test with the plow plane went great.

I’ll be adding a small adjustable version of the planing stop out near the edge to deal with drawer slips and other narrow parts. Once I get all the flaws sorted out I’ll remake using something other than scrap melamine and assorted offcuts.

Looks good! I’m in the same boat - I’ve got a couple of solutions that work, but I’ve been meaning to make something like this for a while. Derek’s blog post about his design has a bunch of great ideas. I’ll be interested in hearing your thoughts after you use this one a bit.

Looking good Rob.

Here's mine. I do a lot of small pieces, so I wanted support for widths down to a couple inches, and allow my plow fence to hang over the side. I just have a short piece of used hacksaw blade to hold the front end.

I've used it a lot and am happy with it. It's a couple years old, so my memory is fuzzy, but I'm sure I gathered ideas from Derek Cohen.

Also, if anyone else wants design ideas, here’s what I’m using right now. If you have had enough to drink, you can convince yourself that the plywood base is flat. The dog hole I used for clamping the fence got too wallowed out, so I’m rigging up contraptions until I get motivated to drill another hole in my bench. I spent at least five minutes putting this one together several years ago, so I’m a little hesitant to let that time go to waste by making a replacement.

Surprisingly enough, thus actually works fine!

A feature is the fence with two heights, as well as the toothed stop …
