Pat Warner Router Table Fence question

Have any of you built the router table or fence from FWW #144? I am looking to make something and the mechanism to micro adjust the fence looks like it will work for my application. What I am most interested in is how the aluminum is being attached to the wood. Is there a threaded insert in the wood that the aluminum is screwed into? TIA

The four clamping levers attach with t nuts, the rest of the fasteners are tapped directly into wood.
