I have one of these @ 14 years old now. 2hp cyclone. Fit in my ceiling space in my basement shop.

After I turn it off, near the end of it's spin down cycle there sounds like there is some rattling. Looking at the parts breakdown, there aren't any bearings, it appears the impeller is mounted directly to the motor shaft? Only thing I can guess is that over time the set screw or however the impeller is attached to the motor is coming loose. Trying to get ideas from others before I take this thing apart.

Thanks.

Brian

I had sliver of wood stuck in the duct work that did a dance in the wind and made a rattley noise as the machine wound down. Brerings sometimes make noise at a certain RPM. Mine makes a bearing noise that comes and goes, mostly noticeable during coasting.

motor has two bearings; I have one that needs bearing replaced on blower end

Brian, check out this old thread of mine in case you're having the same issue: https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?290378-Oneida-V3000-Impeller-came-loose&highlight=V3000

Paul, thanks. Worked in the mechanical power transmission industry my whole career. My drawing and parts list does not show a bushing. It shows the impeller mounted directly to the motor shaft with a key and set screw then a washer on the underneath side of the impeller and a bolt that goes through the impeller and screws into the end of the motor shaft. I'm guessing the set screw or key way is showing wear/loose. I can pull the tapered bottom off the unit to get at the impeller and check all this. thanks brian

It's not a motor bearing, at speed it is making the same sound it always was. If there was wear I should hear it at speed. Think the impeller is coming loose. thanks brian

My first thought was the starting switch, but maybe not the sound you're describing.
