UPS just delivered my new un-handled scraper. So far so good.

But this one has a square tang on it that is tapered along its length.

So my question is --- What size hole do I bore for it in the end of the handle I'm about to turn?

My thought is shoot for the diameter at the mid point along the length of the tang.

Go a bit deeper than the length and dump some epoxy in to it.

Yes? No? Other?

thanks

Diameter at about half or 1/3 of the way from the tool towards the pointy end of the tang. That leaves room for epoxy and a nice snug fit when you drive it home. Be sure to put a metal collar around the handle before you do this to insure you have no splitting. I use copper water pipe scraps for this...

Thanks, Jim. The ferrule was a given.

Andy when I did mine I drilled the first hole just bit smaller than the lower end of the tang the length of the tang. I then used a second drill bit to drill just a bit smaller than the largest part of the tang about half way in the same hole. That will keep it tight but it won't split. I then put some epoxy in and used a wooden mallet to hammer into place. Worked great.

Thanks, Bernie. They're now all done. Did kinda what you said but used a round rasp to tweak it after it came off the lathe.
