OK I know this is not a total turning project but it has a lot of turning involved. It measures 30" long x 13" tall x 8" wide.. The boiler and stack are walnut with cherry accents, wheels are bubinga, steam tanks are wenge. There is also purpleheart and cocobolo in there somewhere. The only thing on this train that was not made by me are the little oak plugs on the wheels. I have a coal car, cattle car and caboose with track that goes with this. Sorry for the poor photo quality. Thanks for looking.

WOW!!

Don't really know what else to say. Excellent work Keith. :)

Where's the rest of the pictures????? You're just teasing us with the locomotive and then telling us you have more pieces.

Very, very nice work Keith. I build models my self and can fully appreciate your efforts. I have a great fondness of trains, however I build the old tall sailing ships, the last one involving over 2000 hrs.

You must have some extensive time in the locomotive, do you have an estimate in the hrs.

Great craftsmanship,

Bill.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>:)

Beautifully done, for sure. Did you have plans for building that or just wing it?

Bill, how about posting a picture of your tall ship. Love to see it. There is nothing prettier than thosr tall ships!

Wow Keith,
Awesome engine.
My mother used to have a children’s shop that featured handmade wooden toys as well as books and sewn dolls that she made. Your engine would have been way top shelf!
Nice work.

Thanks guys for all your knid words, they are certainly encouraging. I'll try to answer a couple of questions. First I did have a plan, not smart enough to wing it. If you are interested please pm me and I'll try to get the info to you. I really don't have a clue as to how long it took me to build it but I would guess in the 100-150 hour range.

Thanks again.

Yes it was Keith. The problem was I did mine over a very long time (more than a year) making one piece at a time during lulls in other projects. I don't think I would make another one though :).

WHO, it's almost two years since I have looked at this post.
Well Karl I finally dug out some old photos and put them on the scanner, so be it for the poor quality.

This is a model of the ship Ezmeralda, a four masted schooner. The ship is still sailing today.

The model stands 11.5" tall and is 15" long. It's NOT from a kit but all hand carved and hand rigged, anything round was turned on the lathe. All taken from a photo. I have about 2000 hrs in it. Lots and lots of small parts to turn.

Well if nothing else, I finally got them up Karl.

Well, it certainly took you long enough Bill. ;) :D

That is an awesome model and I'm in awe of the time, detail and painstaking work involved.

Do you still have the model? If so, how about some updated pics with a digital camera. And some more angles?

Karl
