These appeared in my tools at some point and not sure where from or what they are. Thought would be to hold a saw for sharpening but then they are not deep

“Hand vises “ , they are used for holding small parts that need to be filed after forging . Gunsmiths use them a lot. Most are English or German . I’m guessing that the
ones shown are about 4 inches ,some are about 2 inches ,or less. Probably, ones made buy the English Stubs family have the most jewelry -like
shape and polish.
