Hi,
I am rebuilding a Tool Kraft 6x48 Belt Sander.

Was wondering is buying cast iron pullys for sander and motor is worth doing???

I can see where CI Pulleys would be worth it for say a Table Saw...

But what about a Sander???

Also the only motor I have is a good old 60's Craftsman 1/2 HP motor.

Would that work?

Motors seem to be pretty expensive these days and I'm not a full time Woodworker, just small projects!

Check with ZORO for pulleys, AKA sheaves. Recently I needed an 5/8" bore, 1 1/2" pulley for a rototiller. From Zoro, shipped, I could buy two for less than one from any other source.

For fractional horse power I use die cast pulleys from the hardware store. Your 1/2 HP Craftsman motor should be OK for modest use. Getting the speed right for these sanders is important. If I remember correctly the sanding belt wants to go 60 mph.
