485490485491

485493
485494
And..
485495
1 more...
485496
To be continued..

Up-date....because of the rain, did not get back to West Liberty, OH.......Nor any other Yard Sales...
However...I did clean a few things up...
485554
Not much I could do to this, afraid to clean up that bar...Lettering says "B & C" not B&O...next..
485555
EC Stearns Saw file Guide....looking like new...getting it ready to be shipped out...next..
485556
Stamp on the spine says this is a Jackson...warranted cast steel USA sharpened up, and given a test drive..
485557
In Maple end grain. Might come in handy?
Next..
485558
Spine is a bit thinner than my Disston No.68.....different handle, too..
485559
Might be a Crown?

Next..
485560
Etch says this is a New York Saw Works No. 54.....5ppi, 26" long skew back RIP saw...hmmm
485561
RIP being an understatement....almost too much set...

The Push drill? I simply cleaned up the rusty spots..oiled things up...works like new...

Those two smaller saws were $2 each, the Japan Drill was $0.50....File guide, clamp, and that RIP saw were a dollar each...not too bad of a weekend?

As for that 8" Fulton draw knife?
485575
Seems to have cleaned up nicely, enough....now have a 6" and this 8"......one by PEXTO...and the Fulton.
Cost was a dollar bill..and looked way better than any of these...
485576
That were $8 and up, a piece. Folder was $20?

There was a Jack plane in with all them block planes....$8? Until I looked under the "hood".....stamped steel frog? No-Go!

Too much heat on Friday, was having issues with that. Saturday, I went out yard sale shopping....as it looked too much like a thunderstorm down south, towards West Liberty, OH. Sunday and today were also "rain-outs" to me. What was left of my allowance was spent for painting supplies...as the Boss wants the Kitchen Cabinet Doors re-painted.

Slotted screws in the door hinges...PITA.....decided to use the Millers Falls No. 67 to remove/install them. Now have 5 out of 9 upper cabinet doors done...ceiling fan is not much help, keeping things cool. Working up a sweat, installing doors? Going to be a LONG week, doing that job...

That New York Saw Works No. 54....5ppi filed rip...
485662
Has THE WIDEST set teeth I have ever seen on a saw...
485663
Hard to get started...cuts fast, but very ROUGH..
485664
Thinking about reducing the set...
485665

As for the other 2 saws? What can you all tell me about Jackson backsaws?
485666
Small medallion, with just an Eagle....
485667
Steel back, 12" length
485668
Seems to work nicely enough in Maple end grain....might be a useful Dovetail saw
485669
Whatever etch this had..is long gone...steel back is a lot thinner than the Disston No. 68 version I already had. Might be a "Crown" Gent's saw?

Rip saw was a $1....Jackson was $2....Gent's saw was also $2....

Did not see much in the way of hand planes....

Steven, you definitely got some great deals, the saw filing guide and that draw knife look like the best deals, but from the pictures it looked like there was some certifiable junk, (scrap iron), there at the tractor show also. Your restorations look good too. Again, I especially like the Draw Knife and the saw filing guide. Thus, ya did good....nice restoration, good prices, and useful tools!

The New York Saw Works "Rip" saw: WAY too much set. Decided to reduce it to about..half as much set...

Monarch metal vise...squeeze the teeth, move the saw, repeat as needed along the length...26". Test cut showed that it behaves a lot better....may need to get the Wentworth back out, and refresh them pointy things...filed rip.

That Jackson back saw could, maybe use a hair more set...we'll see.

The Gent's Saw is fine.

Drawknife is a Fulton, 8"
485767
Can now be stored with the 6" PEXTO I already have.

File guide has been sold, getting it ready to ship out next week, once the payment gets here for it.

As for the $2 backsaw?
485958
Etch on the spine says this is a Jackson....seems to work quite well
485959
Starts easy, doesn't bind...8 strokes to go 3/8" deep...

Easier to use than the Disston No. 4....which is 14" long.....Jackson being 12"...
