I need a mobile base for my old cast iron 18" bandsaw. Right now I am using a homemade base made from plywood and store bought casters. Although it roles easily, the bandsaw shakes easily from simple hand pressure and has a lot of vibration when running. It also has no leveling ability for an uneven floor. I'm in need of something more stable to support the top heavy machine that it is. I'm guessing it is around 350 lbs. My research has yielded the following choices and opinions...

HTC2000: OK but a bit undersized. Has pedals to raise the front casters, but prone to thumping the machine on the floor when released. Has no easy method of leveling...need tools to do this. $55 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00002262M/104-8101191-1107924?v=glance&n=228013

HTC3000: Heavier than the HTC3000 for upto 700lbs. Works just the opposite by pressing pedals to lower the stationary legs. Has no easy method of leveling...However, not sure if the pedals help level it. $99.http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?familyid=5331

Shopfox Super Heavy Duty: Upto 1300lbs. Seen several complaints about difficulty to roll around (probably soft wheels) and bolts easily strip out when assembling indicating poor quality. However, has nice leveling knobs. $90 http://www.grizzly.com/catalog/2006/main/239

General Universal: Good for up to 500lbs. Has foot pedals to raise machine when moving. Has levelers, but not conveniently adjustable. $60.http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/11444

Delta: Seems comparable to the HTC2000 but you have to make your own frame from hardwood. Has no convenient leveler and has only three wheels when rolling around which seem scarey with a top heavy machine. $55. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000223CL/qid=1138034156/sr=1-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-8101191-1107924?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=228013
any opinions apprectiated. :)

I have two of your selections in my home shop. I use Shop Fox bases under my Band saw and Planer. I have HTC bases under my table saw and combo sander. Both the Shop Fox and HTC bases are excellent products, IMHO. I prefer the hand cranked stop method used on the Shop Fox base, but that's me. The Shop Fox hand-canked stop can also be used to level the base, while the HTC base has a more tedious leveling capability using feet that are loosened with a wrench and retightened. If your floor is level, the HTC foot pedal is faster and more convenient for locking and unlocking the stand. Both work well, IMHO.

I have two HTC2000 bases and agree totally with your research on it. They are ok imo. I would rather have a base with a single cam/control than having to do both. In general, I am somewhat disappointed with the universal bases and now stick with ones designed for the tool.

Oh, I like the 3 wheel units better than 4. Don't have to worry about it rocking on uneven floors.
