My wife asked me to make her a small plant stand, 30" high and 11" square. She wanted me to make it out of walnut to match our kitchen table (which I made several years ago out of white oak and then stained walnut)
I usually get my wood at a local cabinet maker's shorts room. I planned to get some white oak, he has plenty, and stain it. I've been going there for 6 years and have never seen a single piece of walnut.
Well yesterday not only did they have some beautiful walnut, but there were four pieces that were the exact right sizes for all four legs. no cutting required at all.
I got about 10 bd. ft. of walnut for $20; I'd say $2 a bd ft for walnut is not a bad deal:)
Someone was surely watching over me yesterday!
