Jet 1640 lathe

Question for anyone out there with Jets newer model lathes..1640 and 1840. I have the older model 1642 and love it. I have a friend look for a larger lathe on a some what limited budget. I suggest he look at the 1640 but have no experience with it and have heard no talk on this forum or any other forums as to how it compares to the older 1642’s. All inputs appreciated.

At the risk of starting a posting war on a hot or controversial topic, have your friend also look at the specs of the Grizzly G0766 lathe. It can handle a 22" dia turning and is spec'd at 42 inches. I have had one for over 5 years and like it. I haven't turned on a Jet so I can't give you a comparative impression.
