Keith Christopher and his delightful fiance' Jenny came for a visit today. He was quite thoughtful in ensuring that his clothes matched mine...so that was really nice.:D The three of us visited for a bit, hung out in the shop for a while, where Keith bashed his head on my overhead heating duct as many times as he could stand. Then we headed out to the Tree Lot and cut up a bunch of Osage Orange for him to take home some day. It was a short afternoon visit but we had a good time. Jenny took a lot more pictures than I did, so Keith's going to have to supplement this thread. It was a fun afternoon....I enjoyed their company.

John what's on your lip? You trying to look like Andy and me??

If we weren't so short we wouldn't have to worry about tall people in the shop. I'm 5'7" Both my son's are well over 6':eek: Every time they come into the shop they duck just to make me mad:mad: I know I'm short:o

Glad you all had a good time.

Jim

Well it was a great day! John and his lovely wife were gracious and wonderful hosts. As john said we hung out a little in the shop, then went to the stump dump and put his new chainsaw blade through the paces. On the way back we stopped to see if this HUGE stump was a cherry, it turned out to be an old tulip tree but the owner said he already offered it out. :( I think he thought we were looking for firewood. I wish I had more time because I wanted to give 'the ugly stick' and 'big bertha' a try in his lathe. (it also didn't help Jenny and I got misguided on the way there and went about 10 miles out of our way. LOL) I look forward to returning to spend some more time and perhaps spin some wood. THanks for having me over John !

p.s. John has more turning wood in his shop than you can shake a stick at, and let me tell you I'm not lying to anyone at all. I've attached some pic that Jenny took. John thanks for having us over !!!

Notice the 'vent of head trauma behind me ;)

Tell ya what...If that giant Tulipwood stump is still there in a couple of weeks, I'm stopping there again. I figure if they are going to use it for firewood, I can trade REAL firewood to offset what I would take for more civilized uses.:D

Yep...It was a fun day. I got all the Osage Orange sealed up and stored so when Keith makes it back with a car, he can take it home. I weighed some of it and I think there's close to 200 pounds! Still some left out there though......beckoning me to come back.:o

Oh...by the way Karl...I wanna be Frick.;)

John. If you'd keep Keith around for a while, maybe your shop ceiling height would increase!!

Looks like fun!

I was doing the same thing the other day, but in the Dungeon with an electric chainsaw, the bad thing is I have to sweep up the mess when I'm done..... ;)

Cheers!

Well those who can't do well, watch I guess... :D I tell you what that new saw blade made short work of that wood. However I did get to smack some stubborn logs around to "finish" the cut. I tell you that tulipwood had some age on it and SOME nice figure in the pieces we saw and dare I say some was a little curly. to give you and idea, I'm 6'2" tall standing next to the stump. Oh and John, if you get some of that tulipwood save me a block or two. Pleeeeeeaaassseee, I'm dying to turn that to see what's hiding in there.

I'll be back out this way soon and we'll get some spinning time ! You can school me on those hollow forms you're so good at.

And let me assure you John turns ALOT more than he posts, there are small forms adorning his furniture. I even got to see the ittybitty contest entry he made ! I won't even mention the gazillion pen blanks and pen kits he has, but then again Brea hardwoods is like a stone's throw away I'd probably have a zillion also ! I'm going there tomorrow so I'm sure I'll be broke after that.

So I guess I'm Frack... I'm ok with that.
