Making a salt pig for the table (Like an old time salt cellar but out of wood and lays on its side, sort of). Don't want to finish with mineral oil as I think the salt would stick to it. Any suggestions for food safe finish for this...cured shellac?
Thanks
Ernie

All finishes sold today are "safe" once fully cured. Shellac is an excellent choice for this as it's easy to apply and is one of the best moisture barriers available. ("moisture", not "water"...there is a difference ;) )

Jim,
Thank you. Glad you confirmed what I thought, but wasn't 100% sure of. Will probably turn a scoop out of same wood when I get to making the salt pig. Again, thank you.
