Los Angeles area lumber yards

Finding a good source of domestic hardwood (QSWO, cherry, the usual stuff)
for furniture-making has proven more difficult in the LA area than I'd expected.
I've had pretty good luck with Hudson and West in Torrance and modest luck with
Cherokee Lumber in Upland. H&W sells only S2S1E stuff; Cherokee sells rough
as well, but I've found them somewhat difficult to deal with.

Would love to hear recommendations/opinions about others!

to House Hardwood yet. Will give them both a try.

Bohnhoffs in Vernon as Jamie said. Nearly all their lumber is rough.

House of Hardwoods is smaller and the lumber will cost you more, but they have other benefits such as a wide-belt sander / planer where you can get glue-ups surfaced.

Austin Hardwoods in Santa Ana is like Disney for woodworkers - most of their lumber is surfaced and so you can of course see the grain. Plus they carry everything from what you mentioned all the way to slabs, salvaged and so on.

I tend to use a couple of places closer to my shop, Metro Plywood in Gardena (a block away) and Strata, a few miles away in Compton. Strata has a great selection, and I'm sure will be cheaper than Hudson and West.
Both Metro and Strata have multiple locations.

House of Hardwoods is more full service, and can joint, mill, plane sand etc

Bonhoffs is more for the trade.

Again, thanks all. Gave Bohnhoff a look today; was impressed. It is all
rough, but that's ok for me. May try House of Hardwoods, but its a significantly
longer drive for me in Pasadena.

Check out Anderson Lumber, Culver City.

Anderson is great for plywood and Festool selection. Not as good as House of Hardwood for hardwood selection.

The great thing about Anderson (Culver City) is they can cut your plywood to size.

And they are fast and accurate at it, using two cabinet saws!
