I'm making a small table top / lid for a fire pit.

I would like to torch (Shou Sugi Ban) the round, white oak panel, but it will be glued up.

I cannot torch the panels before gluing.

Is there a glue or technique that I can use here that won't break the glue?

Has anyone used Roo glue in this kind of app?

I would use a thermosetting glue like urea formaldehyde. That said I think most gluelines except hide would stay together with a superficial charring.

There is always the option of mechanical fasteners on the underside of the cover...maybe get a round piece of steel to cover that need and screw up though it into the wood.
