Thought I would tap the experts knowledge here on SMC ! I have a friend that was emptying out a storage unit that belonged to his brother in law who passed away. He came across this lathe (or what looks like all the pieces of one). Any idea as to what this might be worth and / or is it worth trying to sell ? Thanks

In addition to Sawmill Creek, you might check out Old WoodWorking Machines (OWWM).

It is a metal Lathe, Not a real heavy duty one but one that the right person would be very keen to get. I will snoop around the web for comparables.

My comments are not definitive but I'll share my thoughts of trying to downsize and selling used equipment.

The lathe is old and rusty. It looks like the belts are flat belts rather than Vee. It uses a "rocker" tool post rather than a newer style. I couldn't tell if it had change gears or a gear box because of how the picture was taken.

This is about the equivalent of an Atlas lathe (sold by Sears). I own one (12" commercial). The value of the lathe depends on a number of things including accessories. I don't see a tail stock - - which is a major $ drawback.

If this doesn't have accessories and the rust/pitting isn't too bad, I'd maybe guess $100-200 if you find the right buyer. If the bed is worn (plus the rust), then perhaps less.
