Hi All,
Just finished turning my first piece of olivewood, and figured out why I like turning so much.
I've only been at this a couple weeks, but when I finished this pen, I realized it's like a treasure hunt.
You can look at the outside of a chunk of wood, and then be totally amazed at what you find inside.
(insert Forest Gump box of chocolate reference here:D )

Thanks for all the great info I have been able to get from everyone in the group.

Welcome to Creek Ron. That is a great looking pen. I agree it amazes me what you find inside of wood when turning.

That is why I like woodworking and woodturning so much. The next piece of wood and the next project being brought to life. Every pen blank, bowl blank, turning square have their own unique promise. So much wood so little time.....;) :D

Nice Pen!!

That question, "What's inside the wood?" is, for me, one of the biggest dilemas in turning. When to stop? I'm not one to usually have any elobrate plans when I start so I'm guided more by the wood. I'm always bothered with the fear that I've either turned away some awsome feature in the wood or else left it hidden under 1/64th of wood.
