I bought some inexpensive polypropylene Oriental rugs for the shop. Turns out they are cheaper than conventional anti-fatigue mats. A 2'x8' rug is $99, a high qualtiy rubberized felt pad adds $29. Home Depot has 2'x8' black rubber anti-fatigue mats for $159. Home Depot also has the rugs as do many other placess. I got one rug from HD and the rest from a rug outlet in Atlanta.

The shop has all hard surface and sounds like a medieval church. I need both cushioning for feet and for sound absorption so I have covered all my aisles, not just the places where I frequently stand like the workbench and table saw..

I have had one rug for testing the idea for a few months. It is easy to vacuum because the pile is dense and short. I like the way it looks too. Black rubber mats would just kill the whole vibe, don't you think?

I wish I could make a rocking chair like that one. It was made by Amish craftsmen. It is very comfortable. It is where Janicewhokeepsmehumble waits when she comes to supply an extra pair of hands when needed. There is a supply of Economist magazines beside it.

Ok, this is a really interesting idea that I may need to test out here once the new shop is up. I'm also concerned about noise abatement and having some on the floor as well as the other accommodations I'm considering would be "the complete package".

They have the mats and rugs displayed in the same area. Recording studios frequently have Oriental rugs to control acoustics. The original Oriental rugs were to control sand in Arabs’ and other nomadic tribes’ tents.

Let know about the complete package when you figure it out. I could use more dampening.

Makes the shop look like home. Wait, is that a good thing?

Makes the shop look like home. Wait, is that a good thing? The shop has a living room and two bedrooms. It is overflow living space (for JWKMF and me) when all the kids and grandkids are all at the lake house down the road.
