Lumber and finishimg material suppliers in Chicago?

A friend of mine has moved to Chicago and is going to do some home renovations and needs finishing materials (plywood sheets, MDF shelving, edge banding, etc etc).
Creekers from the area, where do you suggest/recommend to get these stuff from other than big box stores?

I really like Owl Hardwood Lumber. They have two locations, but the one in Des Plains has much more selection. I moved away 22 years ago, and still make the 6 hour round trip to shop there
