Got to spend some time in the shop today and turned a couple of maple bowls.

This first one is 10" x 4" and finished with the Beall buff only.

Thanks for looking.

Dick, The bowl looks good, ready to be useful. The wood has some interesting grain in it. Nice work.

Dick,

Another beautiful bowl, but then again, aren't they all that you post ? ;)

Dick, a question if I may. When you finish a bowl with "buff only" as in this one, do you have to re-buff it periodically to keep the sheen? What about if the bowl is used say in the kitchen, is it sealed enough to keep moisture out or is a different finish needed?

Thanks for sharing your work.

Wow, Dick, that wood is something else and the finish must be like a piece of polished marble which is what this wood resembles. Great job!:D

Thanks guys, this one finished up a lot easier then the other maple bowl I completed.

Bob, I would think that by just buffing this bowl would not hold up being used in the kitchen. It is said that Carnuba was is one of the hardest wax's that are but I usually add a coat of Renaissance wax on top since it is easy to apply. You just wipe on, wait 20 seconds and wipe off.

If I know a person is going to use it in a kitchen I would first soak it with Wacto and let it sit for a week or so and then buff it. Or use mineral oil if it is to be used for food.

So far I am a collector, not a seller so I just make them look nice.:(
