I just received my new Oneway Talon chuck from woodworkers supply
today and i'm having a problem threading it onto my spindle..It came with
a 1"x8"TPI adapter which is my spindle size, it will only go about 1 thread
before it stops. I've tried on both lathes with the same problem. I don't
want to force it on..Has anyone else had this problem? :( :( :(

Don't mean to sound condescending, are you sure its the right thread count? Mine had no issues thereading on either the Jet mini or the Delta.
What is your lathe?
Not trying to be a smart arse, but sometimes we over look the simplest of things.
Maybe the threads on the insert are bad.

Is there a allen locking screw to lock the chuck to the lathe does it need to be backed off?

No allen screws, I have several face plates and 2 other chucks, all are
1x8 tpi. I think that the adapter threads are not machined correctly.

Stranger things have happened.

Or they sent you the wrong adaptor....

I just looked at the Oneway website. According to it:

<table border="0"> <tbody><tr><td width="75">0227</td> <td>1 - 8 RH/LH </td><td>Oneway/Talon</td></tr></tbody> </table>
Funny how the same part number works for both left and right hand threading. Did the box that it came in specifiy any of this?

The OneWay inserts are cut pretty precise and may just be fitting very tight on your spindle or you're not quite "clicking" in on the threads. You may want to call them to discuss.

If possible, in good light, look into the threads on your faceplates and the talon and see if they look the same. If it's the wrong adaptor they will be noticeably different because I think the next closest size would be 1 x 12. My talon goes on the spindle so smoothly that I can give it one spin by hand and it will thread on til it pops tight. Oneway might have a defective adaptor or maybe just sent you the wrong one. But they're good folks and they'll make it right.

Andy, the adapter is threaded for both RH & LH, called the vendor
and they are sending a new one. When looking real close at the
way both sets of threads start it dosen't look like right, but then
i've never seen dual threads before either...... It is stamped 227
and the box says 1x8 TPI......

Finally got the replacement insert yesterday, and it works! looks the same
but I can see that the threads are cut alot deeper...Initial order took
3 days to get here but the replacement took 2 weeks! Oh well better
late than never...
