I was just looking at the Lindquist home site where they turn large logs. What I am wondering is how do they do it. Does anybody know how they locate the center of the logs when they aren't straight. How do they figure out the balance point. If anyone of my genius friends out there know how this is done I would appreciate them telling me how this is done because I am completely baffled.

Hi David

You should ask him how he does it.

If I were doing this I would have three approches.

First I would have a hugely stable lathe with a very slow speed

Next I would select logs that were easly able to fiind a suitable balance point.

I would balance the logs on end and mark those points.

Please note that you can adjust and readjust the log between centers, which may be desired as the turning progresses.

Still you should ask Lindquist how he does it.

Thanks
